Louis Vuitton is famous for constructing his canvas trunks. As a child, his family owned a woodmill outside of Paris. Learning from them, he became very good at creating wood trunks and came up with a unique idea. Instead of using leather to make a trunk, why not use canvas? Canvas is much lighter and durable for wet weather such as rain and sleet and snow. With leather, it tends to become a dewy paste when wet and will soak everything on the inside. This was a genius idea because he was the first to create this. People from all over the world would come to Louis Vuitton's place in Paris to buy a trunk before going on long voyages around the world.
